Monday, September 5th: Today was the first day of classes of my junior year! I slept in till 1pm because I didn't have class till 3pm. I got up, got ready and made my way to campus (a 20minute walk...in the pouring rain). My first class was Saints and Sinners of the Celtic World which counts for a history class at home. The class was really interesting and we learned about how St. Patrick was probably not the first person who brought Christianity to Ireland and it was actually other Saints before him. Then I had an hour before my next class so I found my roommate Emily and we had lunch before finding our other roommate Siel and heading to class. At about 5:10 (the classes here always start about 10 minutes late) the professor came and said that if we were home students (Irish students) we should go to a different lecture hall to learn about how these English classes would fit into their major and whatnot but if we were visiting students we could go home. So my second class of my junior year lasted all of 10 minutes. Then we walked back to our apartment and hung out for a while before I went to my friend Elizabeth's apartment and met her two Irish roommates, Sara and Ashling. They are both really pretty and really nice. They taught us Irish things like how instead of saying hello on the phone they say "well" when they answer and craic means fun and that they say "thats dear" meaning that something is expensive, or "that's dear enough". Then we played kings cup and it was funny to learn that not only to Irish people play kings but that their rules are exactly the same as ours. All in all it was a really fun night!
